Waste Management Consultancy

What is waste management? Together with the cleaning up, it is: Reuse, Repair, Reduce, Recycling and Recovering from the incident when it happens.

Fortis has experience in detail methodology for sorting and segregation, waste management start at the origin of the "waste" - there are no waste in the world, there are things YOU don't need any more - so you through it out. Waste management is to identify, who can use what that you don't need any more.

Waste management is a Culture! It involves all individuals who handle and/or have responsibility for handling different types of materials including household materials, industry materials like chemicals and other hazardous substances, and for GCC especially Food Waste. In a waste management culture people must be trained as to the proper handling, segregation and disposal procedures appropriate to the type(s) of materials.

Management System
It is the system to manage and monitor the collection, segregation, transportation, processing, and recycling, of waste materials.

By assessing the process in steps and identify what can go wrong here, assess the effect and impact this potential failure or risk will have related to; products, machinery, environment, people, violation to legislation or any lost to the company. You will have a clear knowledge of the inhered risk. Not all risks are equal sever, therefore, the risk need to be rated to it severity, and not all risk occur all the time, hence we need to assess how often it happens. Finally, we need to know how we currently control these risks of failure, with a rating similar with the first two.

What can be Reused or Recycled?
With Education Fortis provide knowledge of Materials.

Recyclable Materials
Recyclable materials mean that the waste materials that can be recycled or reuse. It includes:

  • Cartons
  • Glass items (bottles and Jars)
  • Papers (Newspaper, shredded paper, magazines etc.)
  • Metals (Aluminum, copper, steel, iron, etc.)
  • Plastics (Wrapping film, plastic lids. PET bottles, etc.),
  • Electronics items
  • Wooden materials
  • Concrete waste
  • Used oils, etc.
  • Leftover Foods

Non-Recyclable Materials
It means that some materials that cannot be recycled. But it can always be repaired and reused as it is.

Hazardous Materials
These are deemed to be dangerous to the life or the environment because of it have the nature of corrosive, reactive, explosive, flammable, oxidizing, carcinogenic, irritant, harmful, infectious, etc. Hazardous materials include but not limited to:

  • Acids and alkaline solution
  • Oily or chemically contaminated soils
  • Used oil or chemical absorbent materials
  • Fluorescent and mercury lights
  • Paint, adhesives and solvents
  • Used batteries, etc.

Non - Hazardous Materials
That do not undergo significant physical, chemical or biological reactions or cause environmental pollution when deposited to landfill under normal condition. Non - Hazardous materials include but not limited to:

  • Uncontaminated soils
  • Ceramics
  • Concreate
  • Masonry and brick debris
  • General household and office waste, etc.

How to handle these materials are depending of the possibilities to find receivers. E.g. - In Kuwait there are about 10 different materials that on a daily basis are reused or recycled by local firms. In cultures as, North European cultures i.e. in Holland or Denmark this number is close to 40.

Fortis will help you to identify your reusables and recyclables.

Energy Conservation Consultancy

Environmental caretaking is often addressed as Global warming and minimizing energy from fossil fuel. In GCC it especially seen as renewable energy sourcing from Solar panels. This makes good sense! Science has proved that the most effectivity of the sun's radiation can be utilized in an area going from the Iranian mountains in East to Egypt in West, Kuwait is in the very middle of this. However, if we change our cultural habits, we can also reduce our energy consumption. 50 years ago, only 20 % of all houses had Air Condition! People were capable to walk with the caravans during the summer.

Legislation and Standard Consultancy

Environmental caretaking is directed per law. Not all legislation is straight forward and if you do not have a deep insight you can end on the wrong side of the law.

In some GCC' environmental protection law is fairly understandable, but specific regulation can be hard to find. Often the law refers to US or EU legislation, therefore, it is important to get consultant from a trained person in law reading and interpretation.

To be ahead of legislation and be competitive in a more and more demanding market it is a big advantage to follow and work under international standards.

With Education, we can improve the world, with knowledge we can improve the Environment. With our passion and commitment, we can save our world from environmental disaster! Fortis bring the solutions for waste management, not only talks. The persistency that comes with sustainable projects, we have shown that it is possible.
